In recent years the ability to fast track the stretching process has become a reality. While the word “scalpel” may sound terrifying, it actually hurts less than repeatedly stretching, and creates far less trauma to the tissue.No blowouts, and an eyelet installed in the best position to safely support future stretching – avoiding the heartbreak of a split lobe.Scalpelling can also be useful to extend an already stretched lobe that just won’t go any further. 
Stretching ear cartilage is a slow and painful process. Cartilage is very rigid and resists standard stretching methods.
So if a large guage cartilage hole is your end game, it’s much easier to get it “punched” from the beginning.
